There’s a question I ask myself often: Why do I do this?
Why do I wake up early, pour my energy into my work, give my time to others, or show up fully for the people I love? It’s not because I have to. It’s not even because I should.
I do this because I want to be generous.
Because generosity, when done with passion and joy, becomes the very fuel for a fulfilling life.
Whether I’m coaching, teaching, helping a friend, or spending time with family, I want to do it in a way that reflects the kind of person I strive to be—a giver. Not just of time or money, but of energy, of love, of attention, of spirit.
It’s easy to think of generosity in terms of what we give away: a donation here, a favor there, a kind gesture every now and then. And don’t get me wrong, those acts matter. But true generosity isn’t just about what leaves your hand—it’s about what flows from your heart.
It’s showing up for your spouse after a long day and still choosing to listen.
It’s giving your team not just direction, but encouragement.
It’s taking care of your health—not for vanity, but because your life is a gift you’ve been given, and honoring it is a generous act in itself.
What if you asked yourself this question every day:
“Am I giving 100% to be generous to my family, my friends, my job, my life?”
Not 100% just to succeed.
Not 100% to be praised.
Not even 100% to be productive.
But 100% to give—to love, to uplift, to pour into others from a full and joyful heart.
This shift in perspective changes everything. Your work stops being a grind and starts being a gift. Your relationships deepen. Your purpose gets clearer. Because suddenly, it’s not about what you get out of something—it’s about what you’re willing to put into it.
You want to feel more fulfilled? More connected? More alive?
Live generously.
Because when you do, you won’t just be helping others—you’ll be helping yourself live a life that feels better. A life that means more. A life rooted in purpose.
Let generosity be your standard—not the exception.
This week, I challenge you to look at everything through the lens of generosity:
- Show up early for someone who needs you.
- Give a compliment you’ve been holding back.
- Take care of your body like it’s the most valuable thing you own.
- Pour your whole heart into your work—not because you have to, but because you get to.
And remember: Generosity isn’t about what you give up. It’s about what you give away—and what you gain in return.
